The Journal of City and Civilization is a peer-reviewed journal aiming at focusing on the city by bringing historical depth, current trends and future perspectives together to understand its multi-stratified and multi-dimensional aspects. This scientific journal publishes biannually in June and December.
The publishing language of the Journal of City and Civilization is Turkish and English. However, articles written in other languages with widespread use are also accepted. These articles are used in their original form or translated into Turkish.
The journal gives importance to the researches that tries to analyze the city from the perspectives of architecture, city planning, local governments, urban history, urban sociology, local politics, spirituality, anthropology, art history, archeology, cultural studies and geography. The journal aims to publish original theoretical and applied researches in this regard, and also welcomes all researches from social sciences and humanities disciplines
The manuscripts sent to the Journal of City and Civilization should not have been published elsewhere. Manuscripts that are presented in a scientific seminar previously might be accepted on the condition of mentioning this factor.
The exception for the rule above is applied to the manuscripts and translations of the articles, which were published minimum 25 years ago and can be considered as classical articles in terms of its importance and impact. Those articles can be published in the Journal of City and Civilization regardless of being previously published. Also, the journal publishes critical editions and book reviews on the city within the social sciences discipline. Those manuscripts are not sent to referees and editorial board makes the publication decision.
The data in the articles sent to the Journal of City and Civilization should be up-to-date. It is reported that research has lost its update if 5 years or more has elapsed since the collection of research data.
The submission of a journal article to the Journal of City and Civilization indicates that the work is original and the author (s) do not have any copyright agreement with another institution.
The intellectual property rights of the articles published in the Journal of City and Civilization belongs to their authors. All copyrights of the texts accepted for publication, including the full text in the hard-copy and electronic formats belong to the Journal of City and Civilization . The authors are responsible for he rights of the drawings, photographs and visual materials used in their manuscripts.
Manuscripts can only be submitted electronically. The articles prepared according to manuscript formatting rules should be uploaded to online system by using the article submission link in the website.
After the submission, the manuscripts are firstly evaluated in terms of their formatting (APA 6th Edition rules). At this stage, if the manuscript needs corrections regarding its format, it is resent to the author with necessary comments. Corrections in format do not indicate the acceptance of the manuscript for publication.
Those who want to have the article sent published somewhere else for delay or other reason may withdraw their articles from the journal with a written application. Declined manuscripts are sent back within 3 months with reasons for rejection.
All authors are informed via e-mail.
Authors take all the responsibility regarding the content and scientific quality of the manuscripts. By submitting their papers, authors express their consent to the terms and conditions indicated above.
The intellectual property rights of the articles published in the Journal of City and Civilization belongs to their authors. All copyrights of the texts accepted for publication, including the full text in the hard-copy and electronic formats belong to the Journal of City and Civilization. The rights of the drawings, photographs and visual materials used belong to the Journal of City and Civilization and to illustrators and photographers who are in agreement with the journal.
Each issue is firstly published online at: https://www.sehirvemedeniyetdergisi.org. Then the issue is printed and a copy of the issue is sent to author/s.
The royalties are paid to author(s) for each published articles.
Manuscript Evaluation
The manuscripts should be submitted electronically via menu item “SUBMIT ARTICLE” on the journal’s website and they should be in Word format enabling composing programs.
The manuscripts are evaluated in “blind-review” process. After a pre-evaluation the articles that are deemed to be worthy by the editors, tare sent to two different referees. In case of a difference of opinion between the two referees, the manuscript is sent to a third referee for review. In the lights of the comments from the referees, the author is informed that whether the article to be published, needs correction or is declined. Editors decide whether the manuscripts that are deemed to be published will be publish, or that in which issue the manuscript will be publish. At the final stage, the author is informed via e-mail.
Editors and Editorial Board members can make minor changings on the manuscripts.
The Journal of City and Civilization responds to submitted manuscripts within 30 days. Not receiving a response within this period means that the manuscripts fail to be submitted. Acceptance or Decline decisions on the manuscripts are definitely notified to the authors.
In order for manuscripts to be considered for review, the formatting requirements for pre-review are below:
- Manuscripts must be prepared according to spelling rules. (All details from tracking to citations and references must be written correctly).
- 2- The manuscripts must be uploaded to Article Template.
- Plagiarism Check Report must be sent together with the manuscripts.
- The Copyright and Ethical Contract must be filled.
